Who am I?
Hi, I’m Lorraine ~ a Mam to three busy boys, aged 6, 4 and just 5 months old. On my second maternity leave, I turned my love of baking into a cake business. I’m not a professional baker ~ just a self-thought baking enthusiast who’s always found therapy in a mixing bowl.
But when cake orders started pouring in, so did the pressure. My kitchen became a health-inspected workspace, and suddenly I was shoeing my own kids out of it ~ when really, all I wanted was to share it with them.
Then, one Toy Show night, my four year old and I made a gingerbread house. It was a disaster! Collapsed walls, icing everywhere ~ and somehow, it was perfect. We both laughed so much at the mess we had created. That night reminded me what baking (and motherhood) is really about: connection, not perfection.
And that’s where Messy Bakes began ~ from my wish to slow down, laugh more, and make memories in the middle of the mess.

Hi, I’m Lorraine ~ a Mam to three energetic young boys. Baking has always been my happy place. What started as a passion turned into a business during my maternity leave, but as my little ones grew and wanted to join in, I found myself in a tricky spot.
Running a baking business meant I had to keep them out of the kitchen when I was working, and soon I was too exhausted to bake with them for fun. Eventually, I decided to pause my business. Then, in November 2023, something wonderful happened.
On Toy Show night, my then 4-year-old and I made a gingerbread house together. It was a complete mess – collapsed walls, runny icing, the works. But we had an absolute blast! Following his lead, embracing the chaos, and focusing on the experience instead of perfection made it one of my all-time favourite moments.
This experience led me to a big realisation: baking with kids isn’t about creating flawless treats; it’s about the joy, the memories, and the messy moments that mean so much more. And that’s how Messy Bakes was born.
Now, I’m on a mission to help other families create these special moments in the kitchen. Baking can be fun, stress-free, and incredibly rewarding when you let go of the need for perfection. Join me and let’s make some beautifully messy memories together!
